I am always looking for ways to save money and love me some good ‘ole DIY projects, but until a couple years ago I had never even thought about DIY laundry soap!

It’s one of those things that I never thought I could recreate better than store-bought and lord knows we need legit laundry products at our house because 1), my husband manages a seafood restaurant and comes home smelling like he’s smuggling salmon in his pockets, and 2) we have a toddler who is constantly covered in food, sirt, paint, or some other foreign substance… so I have always bought the name-brand expensive stuff assuming it was the “only” thing that worked.

One of my all-time FAVORITE bloggers, Liz Marie Blog shared this recipe on her blog one day a couple years ago, so I decided to just give it a shot. This girl is my home decor spirit animal and I just love her!

This stuff is the most AMAZING DIY laundry soap on the planet- and ONLY cost $20! This is my second time making it and the first batch lasted me an entire year– no joke! It smells great, my husbands fishy work clothes come out smelling fresh, and it’s even worked great with toddler stains! Yeah, it’s pretty much magic.

Ready to try it out??

Ingrediants

1. One four pound twelve ounce box of Borax

2. three bars of Fels-Naptha soap

3. one four pound box of arm & hammer baking soda

4. one box of arm & hammer super washing soda

5. four pounds of Oxy Clean

6. Optional: scent boosters for a stronger smell (I like Downy In-Wash Scent Boosters)

This laundry soap is so easy to make!

{Makes 4 gallons}

1. Grate the fels-naptha bars into a bowl. (I used a regular, cheese grater)

2. Place a small trash sack in a large container or pale and pour in the fels-naptha

3. Mix all other ingredients into the sack and shake/mix up really good (I tied off the sack and rolled it around my counter top because it’s a tad heavy)

4. Place into container of your choice {I used a 4 gallon glass jar from Walmart} I painted on a little square using black chalk paint so I could label it too!

I use about 1-2 rounded tablespoons per load {but you can use less with this stuff!}
