Our oldest is starting pre-school, so I felt like we were in a prime time to start some “back-to-school” traditions! I wanted to make things fun and exciting since she has a tiny bit of separation anxiety, but I didn’t want to buy anything unnecessary (since it’s only pre-school).
We also have her little brother that is 2. I’m NOT planning on having a structured tot school at home for him, but I knew he would lose his mind if we got big sister new stuff and didn’t get him something. I also wanted to have some easy things handy to slowly introduce things like words, colors, etc.
What we got:
Pink Unicorn + Rainbow Back Pack: If you follow me on instagram, you know that my daughter is all about rainbows, the color pink, and unicorns…. so I got her a backpack with all 3! I love that this is not a fabric because when she inevitably spills something on it, it’s easily cleaned. This one also comes with a matching lunchbox, which will help her not lose it!
Bento Box: For her lunch every day, I wanted to keep things separate without wasting a ton of zip locks, hence the bento box.
Crayola Twistables: These were a purchase for both kids to keep at home. We already had crayons, but they were broken and some were lost, so I thought a new set would be fun! I love these because they are plastic (not easily broken in half) and twistable, so the end *hopefully* wont get broken off constantly.
Race Car Tape: These are for our race car loving toddler. This stuff is SO awesome because you can make a road for cars literally anywhere in your house, then peel it up and throw it away at the end of the day. I have used it on our wood floors and tile, and it’s never left a sticky residue. This also lets him work on his fine motor skills while also not forcing me to clean up a 4737 piece giant, plastic race car track that took me an hour to build… win-win.
Colors Board Book: Who doesn’t love a good board book? I love that this one has sound, so he can start to associate the color with the word even if I’m not around to sit and read it with him.
First Words Flash Cards: I love flash cards and have always found that they help me learn a lot faster. I am a visual learner, so seeing information isolated on one card (instead on a page with tons of other info) helps my brain process easier. We’ll see if he’s the same!
Mommy + Me bracelets: Like I said, our daughter has separation anxiety, so I was trying to think of a way to remind her I love her and will always be back to pick her up. She is also ALWAYS wanting into my clothes and make-up, so I thought she would love to have something that matches me. I ordered these custom bracelets from an etsy shop that say “love you big” and LOVE THEM!
Lunch box notes: I bought these printable cards from an online shop because I wanted to leave her little notes in her lunch box! My mom always did it for my sisters and I when we were in school and we loved it! These were $5 and came with pennant flag and color sheet printables too!
These were all budget friendly, fun ways to help get our littles excited for learning! And bonus- they’re were all shipped in 2 days from Amazon so I didn’t have to get them all out at a store and fight the crazies!
What are some fun ways you get your kids excited for school??
